THEATRE WORKS FEST
Theatre Works Fest was set up by Amadan in order to bring world class training to Northern Ireland. So often do artists leave these shores to train further afield and often never to return. We aim to bring some of the worlds best practitioners to Belfast for an opportunity that would otherwise not exist. The festival first took place in January 2024 and take place from 4th - 11th January, taking place at The MAC, our current partners on this project.
Theatre Works Fest consists of:
An international masterclass with a renowned theatre practitioner. Amadan have previously hosted masterclasses by Mick Barnfather (Complicite), Philippe Gaulier (Ecole Philippe Gaulier), Jos Houben (Ecole Jacques Lecoq), and David Glass (David Glass Ensemble)
MANIFEST is a new work residency, aimed at artists with early ideas. It lasts for four days where they will have access to a rehearsal space and guidance from three established practitioners throughout the time. It is a free residency and is concluded with work in progress showing on the final day.
MANIFEST first took place in 2023 before the first Theatre Works Fest. It's success lead us lead us to include it into future festivals, and it has now thoroughly become cemented in the Theatre Works Fest programme.
Theatre Makers Toolbox are short three hour workshops, held by local practitioners, who share their expertise, giving tips and advice to participants, guiding them on their creative paths. Previous contributors were Mary-Ellen O’Hara and Kieran Lagan.
